Local 786 Running Team Update

Thursday, July 16, 2009 - Local 786 Running Team Takes First Place In Fairfield

The SFRD running team took 1st place on Sunday in the Fairfield 5k. In the POLICE & FIRE Division, Brother Hagander finished 1st even though he had a separated shoulder and brother Cunningham finished 2nd overall. Brother Tarzia extends his appreciation and gratitude to all of those who participated in this race.

The following members participated: Brothers Hagander, Cunningham, Doherty, Avalos, Hout, H Brown, Lockwood, Brian Teitelbaum and M Brown.

The Stratford MADD Dash 5k is coming up on August 22, 2009. If anyone is interested in running in this race, please contact Brother Tarzia no later than August 19th.

Millions of New Tax Dollars Proposed To Support Mayor Pavia's "Unified" Fire Service??
Mayor Pavia has proposed a new "plan" to establish a new Fire Department to serve the northern 2/3 of the City of Stamford. This new Department will cost upwards of 10 million dollars per year just to start and will only rise over time. How is he going to pay for this? A new FIRE TAX on homeowners!!! All of this during a time when he promised to hold the line on property taxes and essential City programs and services have been cut and hundreds of City jobs have been eliminated. Crystal Ball Fire Fighting? Long Ridge Fire Department Style - Listen Here!
On Monday, May 10, 2010, a Long Ridge Fire Chief cancelled numerous City and Volunteer Fire Units responding to assist his Department during a chimney fire. That Chief was NOT on scene yet and quickly learned that he had more than "just a chimney fire" . Click to listen to the actual radio broadcast of the initial dispatch and cancellation.
