Updated
On: Jun 26, 2008 (17:42:00)
Wednesday, June 25, 2008 - It has been more than 7 years since Local 786 and The Stamford Police Association partnered to fight for a new radio system. After several years of planning and funding, Stamford Fire Fighters and Police Officers will have their new system ready and online as of Thursday, June 26, 2006 at 08:00 hours. The new 800 Mhz radio system will operate off of 5 radio towers, have additional operating channels, have a complete back-up dispatch center, include a renovated primary dispatch center, and have radio coverage far exceeding the previous system. Kudos to all who have worked to get the new system online.

State Labor Board Agent Recommends Charges Against Local 786 Be Dismissed
Updated
On: Apr 08, 2008 (20:07:00)
Wednesday, April 2, 2008 -- A Representative of the State Labor Board reviewing the charges filed by the Turn of River Volunteer Fire Department against IAFF Local 786, has recommend that the case be dismissed for lack of jurisdiction and standing. Turn of River Volunteers filed the charges last year, during the contractual negotiations between Local 786 and the City of Stamford. In his letter recommending dismissal, the State Labor Board Agent wrote: "the City Charter expressly delegates the sole and exclusive control for appointment, wages, hours, and other conditions of employment for these employees to the Chief of the Fire and Rescue Department and its Fire Commission; not the Turn of River Fire Department . Had the City Charter intended the Turn of River Fire Department to have sole and exclusive control for the hiring, wages, hours and other conditions of employment of its employees or any city employes assigned to them, the drafters of the Charter would have written it so." Registered Members can read the entire decision on their Member Home screen.

Springdale Volunteers Continue Their Hostility......
Updated
On: Feb 11, 2008 (15:01:00)
Saturday, February 9, 2008 - In yet another attempt to further severe the relationship between career and volunteer Fire Fighters; the handful of remaining volunteer members of the Springdale Fire Company continue to devise new methods to harass the on-duty Stamford Fire and Rescue Fire Fighters assigned to their Station. Last week, Volunteer Chief Shawn Fahan began to install several video survellance cameras inside the personal living quarters of the career Stamford Fire and Rescue Fire Fighters assigned to the Springdale Fire Station. This unilateral move by Mr. Fahan is being performed under the guise of adding security due to Fahan's claims of recent vandalism inside the Station. Updated
On: Dec 23, 2007 (17:22:00)
Sunday, December 23, 2007 - "Those that fail to learn from history, are doomed to repeat it...." Winston Churchill.
Once again, The Springdale Volunteer Fire Chief has demonstrated another irrational and juvenile display of behavior while interacting with his Stamford Fire and Rescue counterparts.
In his most recent attempt to create hostility amongst career and volunteer fire fighters and sabotage negotiations to improve the Stamford Fire Services, Springdale Volunteer Chief Shawn Fahan attempted to lock-out Stamford Fire and Rescue Engine Co. 7 assigned to the Springdale Fire Station. Mr. Fahan used several of his Department's vehicle to barricade the front apron and driveway in an effort to prevent Engine Co. 7 from returning back into their assigned Station.
